Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs is in some ways another product created from the mind of its subject.

(…)

Steve Jobs is a book told through the often discussed “reality distortion field” of Steve Jobs himself: though other opinions or sides to a story are presented, Steve always has the last, blunt word.

I guess I don’t know who my ideal reader is. This scares me now. I will get over it. I guess I write for someone who could be me. But I’m not very sure about that.

I don’t care if you’re a “blogger”, a poet, a novelist, or someone who writes marketing copy. You need a reader. You need someone who is your model, someone who you are writing specifically for. Without this idea of who you’re writing for you might find that you’re writing just for yourself, or worse, for no one at all.

I’m nowhere near an MG Siegler. Not even when you scale back to the local level but I recognize the willingness and motivation he blogs about/with.

With blogging, as with all things, you have to be in it to win it.

Now, there are several ways to play this game. And there are different standards of winning.

“We believe in those first three clicks, you decide whether or not you want to check out more of it. In the uber-casual place that we all exist in now, it’s a three click deal. We either sold you or we didn’t.”

I’m exactly like this. I want an iPhone. Srsly.

For example, my wife says, “Make sure you check the mail today.” I figure I’ll do that after I get the kids from the school bus. The bus arrives between 2:10 and 2:19. If I set the reminder for 2:10 and the bus doesn’t arrive until 2:19, buy the time I get the kids off of the bus, chat with the other parents and make my way back to the car, it’s 2:30 and I’m wrapped up in discussing the kids’ school day.

And I’ve forgotten about the mail.
