In a l’Histoire se répète article, Dave Winer writes
The sad thing is that Apple is providing a bad example for younger, smaller companies like Twitter and Tumblr, who apparently want to control the “user experience” of their platforms in much the same way as Apple does.
I’m in dubio about this. He is right about the user control but with Apple/iOS you know that for a fact when you start developing for the platform. With Twitter you didn’t. With Tumblr you don’t know yet.
Apple was far more mature when the technology boom came about.
Twitter grew thanks to the different services using it as a platform. Will they regain control?
As for Tumblr, somehow it should take of in 2012 with all the presidential candidates in the US using it. Will they keep control?
For now, I have more questions than answers here.
